Go Gold: Back to School with Cole Fitzgerald

Cancer has given our family many sleepless nights, a large dose of fear and an even larger dose of anger.

But, for every horrible thing childhood cancer has brought into our lives, there are many amazing families who have been gifted to us. Families, who have walked the same walk--the one through childhood cancer. These families have become our own strange, geographically challenged family of warriors. We all have the same look in our eyes: the one that verges between fire and ice.

The Fitzgerald Family is one of those gifts. Cole, their childhood cancer survivor, was diagnosed when he was nearly 3 years old with neuroblastoma, a form of childhood cancer.  Cole is now 8--a survivor, who started third grade today.

Today, Cole and his sisters Maeve and Maggie are back to school. But 46 children won't be in school--they will receive the news that they have childhood cancer.

Go Gold this Month and every month. Share this post and share the facts: Childhood cancer happens, everyday to 46 children.
